Information collected via the Website

Personal information

In general, you can visit the Website without telling us who you are and without giving any personal information about yourself. There are times, however, when we may need information from you.

You may choose to give us personal information in a variety of situations. For example, you may want to give us information, such as your name and address or e-mail address, to correspond with you, to process an order, or to provide you with information on our products and services. You may provide your credit card details to buy something from us or a description of your education and work experience in connection with a job opening at Steorn that you wish to be considered for. We intend to let you know how we will use such information before we collect it from you; if you tell us that you do not want us to use this information to make further contact with you beyond fulfilling your requests, we will respect your wishes. If you give us personal information about somebody else, such as a spouse or work colleague, we will assume that you have their permission to do so.

Visitor Information Statistics

During the course of any of your visits to the Website, our computers automatically collect information about your visits. This information and data about your visits to the Website is used to support your experience of the Website. This information and data is for internal purposes only and is not made available to third parties. We may monitor Website visitor data in an aggregated and non-personally identifiable manner, such as the number of visitors browsing the Website, visitors' IP addresses, the pages viewed by visitors, the domains used to visit the Website and the browsers used. In using the Website you accept that your personal data may be used for such purposes. This information is essential to understanding the needs of visitors and improving the usefulness of the Website for them.

Use of Cookies

Cookies are a standard Internet technology and, like many major web sites, may be used on our Website to provide useful features for you. A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier, that a web server sends to a web browser and enables the web server to collect information from that browser. They enable a website to "remember" who you are.

Cookies provide us with data that can be used to improve the quality of our service and make it easier to use. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. However, by modifying your browser preferences you may set your browser to accept or disable or delete cookies.

If a cookie is used in respect of the Website, we can recall information about you and your preferences. Cookies are often preferred by users as they assist in website navigation. We may decide to use third-party cookies to allow optimal tracking of visitors on sites which reside across multiple domains. Therefore, such cookies can also be read by other third-party websites. As the Website may reside on multiple domains, this may involve use of third-party cookies for this purpose. Again, you may block receipt of third party cookies if you wish.

Please note that for technical reasons blocking the use of cookies may mean that you cannot use some elements of the Website.

Use of Personal Information

The following describes in more detail how Steorn may use your personal information and with whom we may share it.

Certain sections of the Website, for example those offering products for sale, may have particular personal information requirements. In those cases the additional privacy practices relevant to those sections will be clearly highlighted to you.

Fulfilling Your Request

Your information will be used to supply you with any information, products or services you request, where relevant. We may share your information with our licensors or group companies from time to time for administrative purposes or so they can provide you with any information, products or services you have requested.

We may use certain technical information, like your IP address, to statistically analyse site usage and to customise our Website's content, layout and services. The resulting information will allow us to improve our Website.

We may allow third party providers and contractors who supply services to us or who process information on our behalf (for example our payment provider) incidental access to your information in respect of any information, products or services you request. As required by Irish law, we will ensure that they keep your information secure and do not use it for their own purposes.

We may share your personal information with another organisation which may acquire our company or our assets or to whom we transfer any agreement with you and in the course of any negotiations which may or may not lead to such a transfer or sale.

Marketing Use

You may choose to opt-in to the electronic receipt of information on Steorn's products or services and/or the receipt of information from approved third parties. This may include newsletters, competitions and surveys for instance. You may choose to opt-out of the receipt of these at any time.

Participation in these surveys or competitions is completely voluntary and you choose whether or not to disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and delivery address) and demographic information. Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for the purposes of monitoring or improving the Website. No personal information will be retained for longer than is necessary or used for any undisclosed purpose.

If you participate in a Steorn discussion forum or chat room, you should be aware that the information you provide there will be made broadly available to others, both inside and outside Steorn, who have access to that discussion forum or chat room. Also, please recognize that individual forums and chat rooms may have additional privacy practices, rules and conditions and you should familiarise yourself with these prior to contributing. Each participant's opinion on a forum or chat room is his or her own and should not be considered as reflecting the opinion of Steorn.

As part of the products, services and/or information offered to you through the Website, the personal information you provide to us may be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area (the "EEA"). The EEA comprises the EU member states, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Countries outside the EEA may not have similar data protection laws to Ireland.

We may transfer your personal information outside the EEA, for example, if any, or all of our servers are, from time to time, located in a country outside the EEA. We may also need to share your information with our licensors or any group companies of ours that are based outside the EEA. If we transfer your information outside the EEA in this way we will either obtain your prior consent or take steps to ensure that your privacy rights continue to be protected in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003.

If you are based outside the EEA, we may need to transfer your personal information to where you are located in order to provide you with any information, products or services you have requested.

Security and Retention of Information

Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be totally secure. While we endeavour to protect your personal information, Steorn cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or that is transmitted to you.

We will take appropriate technical and organisational measures against the unauthorised or unlawful processing of your personal information and against its accidental loss, destruction or damage.

We will retain any personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes set out in this Privacy Statement, supplemental Website privacy practices or as otherwise required by law.

Supplementing Information

From time to time we may supplement information you give us via the Website with information from other sources, such as information validating your address or other available information about businesses. This is to help us maintain the accuracy of the information we collect and to help us provide a better service.

Service Quality Monitoring

Certain Website transactions may also involve you calling us or our calling you. Please be aware that it is Steorn's general practice to monitor and in some cases record such calls for staff training or quality assurance purposes.

Disclosures Required By Law

We will disclose your personal information if we reasonably believe we are required to do so by applicable law, regulation or other government authority or to protect the rights and property of Steorn, its affiliates or the public. We may also cooperate with law enforcement agencies in any official investigation and we may disclose your personally identifiable information to the relevant agency in doing so, where necessary.

Third Party Advertising

We may share aggregate usage information in a non-personally identifiable manner to advertisers and other third parties in order to present to visitors more targeted advertising, products and services. Advertisements that may appear on this Website may be delivered by our advertising partners. Our advertising partners may set cookies.
